The wheatear is a remarkable bird of Britain's open landscapes, a small but resilient migrant that returns each year to the windswept uplands, moorlands and coastal areas of the British Isles. The hidden wildlife of the hedgerows, rivers, woodlands and moors has become central to my work, encouraging me to look more closely at the species that share these environments and the seasonal rhythms that shape their lives.

The wheatear represents the connection between landscape and migration, returning each year to familiar habitats after journeys spanning thousands of miles. Its presence on Bodmin Moor is a reminder of the wider natural networks that connect Britain's countryside with the rest of the world.

My paintings are created through patience, observation and a desire to capture the subtle details that make each species unique. I am drawn to moments that might easily be overlooked, a bird resting among grasses, the changing light across the landscape or the quiet relationship between wildlife and its surroundings.
